I chose pieces that evoked memories of summer, either because of the subject matter of the piece, or the quality of light, or even just the colors the artist used in the piece. I grew up in Ohio, so while there was no sea nearby, I did spend every waking minute at the city pool, either at swim practice or just swimming for fun. Water was, and still is, very important to me, as well as fields and lush open spaces. I played outside with my neighborhood friends and rode horses (I worked at a riding stable) on trails bordering fields and woods. All of the works in my collection remind me of how I spent my summers growing up. The quality of light during the summer up north is different from other times of the year. Each piece has that quality of light of summertime. The last piece evokes the feeling of the ethereal quality of summertime at dusk.
