History of the Jews

The title of my e*hibit is “The History of the Jewish People”. As you progress down the e*hibit, you start with the start of the Jewish people. After being slaves in Egypt, Moses led the Hebrews out after splitting the Red Sea and crossing to the other side. Upon wandering in the desert, the Jews reach Mount Sinai and receive the Torah (religious te*t) along with the 10 Commandments. The ne*t two paintings are the two destructions of the Holy Temple, the first being the Babylonian Army in 587 B.C.E followed by the second destruction in 70 A.D by the Romans. After the second destruction, many Jews fled to Europe and North Africa, which is now termed as the “Diaspora”. Today, only the western section of the temple still stands in Jerusalem, Israel. For the Jews living in Spain in 1481 A.D, Catholic Monarchs punished the people who were not following the religion of Christianity, so another migration of the Jewish dispersed around the world yet again. The ne*t piece is a burnt Torah shield that was retrieved from one of the many synagogues to represent the Holocaust that happened in the 1940’s. During this short time, the **** Regime from Germany murdered over 6 million Jews. After the **** party fell, we move to the portrait of the Father of Zionism: Theodore Herzl was one of the first to conceive the idea of a Jewish State in the land that was once Palestine. The portrait is an etching of ink on paper, Hermann Struck drew it in 1903, and the dimensions are 15 * 19 cm. The reason why I chose this as my specific art piece is because my favorite quotes was said by Herzl and is as follows:

“If you will it, it is no dream; and if you do not will it, a dream it is and a dream it will stay”. -Theodore Herzl

This quote really pertains to the history of the Jewish people because even after so many persecutions against them throughout time, the Jews are still here and the oppressors are not. As a people, we have always had the dream of surviving, prospering, and having a homeland. The Babylonians fell, the Romans fell, the ****s fell, and the Jews still stand strong.

After escaping from slavery in Egypt, the Jewish people are given the 10 Commandments at Mount Sinai.
First destruction of the temple by the Babylonian army in 587 B.C.E.
The second destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D by the Roman army. Following this, the Jews were were exiled to the Diaspora. They "dispersed" to different parts of Europe and north Africa as well.
Decree by Spain in 1481 A.D under the rule of Catholic Monarchs to punis those committing heresy, or not following the same faith of Christianity.
This represents the Holocaust that happened in the 1940's. During this short time, over 6 million Jews were murdered by the **** regime.
With the help of Theodore Herzl and his movement of pioneers, Israel officially becomes a country in 1948.
