Landscapes of Seaports

Believe it or not, this painting is a studio replica from a set of four, representing the times of day. After reading this I am still amused by the extreme detail, such as the illuminated faces of the people around a fire.
I really thought that it was interesting that Claude-Joseph decided to paint with oil on silver copper. It seems a little more difficult than the traditional method of painting on a canvas.
The artist used this painting to depict the ending of a storm by presenting dark clouds, an angry sea, a shipwrecked boat, and anxious survivors. I would guess that the meaning of this painting is to show the force of nature over humans.
Claude-Joseph Vernet captures wonderful weather and leisurely activities of a day by sea in this painting. I really appreciate the detail and color arrangement.
