I chose this modern painting because of how the painter chose to have the light shine down onto the horrific battlefield. The lines of the light draw the gaze towards the men on the field.
I found this impressionistic work intriguing because of the expressions on the faces of the soldiers. The colors express and accentuate the anxiety of the soldiers.
These panels are amazing in their detail. The richness of color and the use of gold to depict the fog of war help guide the viewers gaze to different areas of the panels.
This work is fascinating because it is a Japanese artist using western techniques to paint Islamic soldiers in an era when Japan had little contact with the rest of the world.
