1) Rainy Season in the Tropics. from the de Young Museum in San Francisco. This painting caught my eye because of the rainbow that stretches across the entire piece. The rainbow is a tool to guide the viewer across the painting. I really like the use of lighting to highlight the bottom right of the piece with the palm trees and the people. 2) Il rinoceronte from Ca' Rezzonico in Venice. I chose this painting because I enjoy art from this period (around 18th century) and enjoyed the depiction of the rhinoceros. I am also curious why the face of the woman in the back row has been blacked out. 3) Independence Hall in Philadelphia which is actually currently hanging in the White House. I like this painting because I've been to Independence Hall and it was very interesting to see it depicted not only in a painting but from a couple of hundred of years before I went. The building is the focal point of the painting and complete center of attention.
