Elements of art and design

I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid on this work.  - Samantha Wierzbicki

The artist used diagonal, hatching, & crosshatching lines. His choice of lines create a dark and light value. The lines describe the edges in this painting. They also indicate movement.
This painting is made up of different shapes put together. They make the picture 2 dimensional. There are geometric and natural shapes present. They make up the mountain, boat and other features.
The dark value is used to express her hair and clothing. The medium gray value shows the shadows and expresses form. The lighter value portrays her skin and parts of the background. Creates illusion.
The use of lines on the mans face creates the illusion that his face would feel wrinkly. It would also feel rigid because of the way the artist used darker lines throughout his face. It also looks dry.
The form in this artwork creates the illusion that it is 3D. The contour lines make the shapes look rounded and real. It looks like the shapes are coming out of the painting based on the elements used.
The positive space in this painting is the shape of the rabbit. The negative space is the lighter colored background. These spaces play an important role in determining the composition in the artwork.
The colors that make up this painting are white, green, blue, purple, red, pink and yellow/orange. The colors used have a happy effect on the artwork. The colors represent the different features in the painting.
