ART 111/220N Chadwick
At first look this painting seems like just two boys amusing themselves on a sunny day. The earth tones are found all through out the work and the straight line of the straw points down to the bubble.
The eye is drawn to the bubble perhaps because it is actually a metaphor for the brevity of of life and childhood. The bubble seems to escape the straight line of the windowsill that frames the boys.
The diagonal line drawn by the straw that the boy in front is echoed in the one still in the cup. Also the two boys, the triangular hat and the bottom windowsill makes a triangle shape in the center.
