Living with Christ

There are many depictions of Christ; how he lived, and how he died.  Centuries after he walked the earth, there is still art being done through out history.  In Modern Europe, the art of Christ is very different.  Here we see art from not just modern Europe, but throughout the time and different ranges from sketches to paintings.

In the bible there is Mary the mother and Jesus the Son of God. Joseph, who is Mary’s husband is not mentioned much and forgotten sometimes. The fact that Joseph is the one holding what I believe is baby Jesus is powerful as to not forget his impact on the life of Christ. In the bible, John the Baptist is around the same age as Jesus. It is interesting that he is much older in this painting.
This photo is showing the crucifixion. Jesus is in the middle and on either side of him are the thieves. On one side is the good thief and the bad thief on the other. The people surrounding the cross are what is known as the church today I believe. In the bible, no one around the crucifix prayed, but now there is so much praying.

This picture is simple. It is just Christ. A painting of a more Jewish and Asian looking Jesus. This painter was not European, but Indian, which makes his style unique. This painting is what he felt Christ looked like. He gave him more of a style that Roy himself, would wear.
This piece while not European it is interesting. Mary is holding Jesus right after he is taken down from the cross in what looks to be a cave. It must be the last time Mary holds him before he gets laid in the tomb. As a mother when your child dies, the world around you is not important which is what the blurs and squiggles around her could represent.
This is a sketch. This artist has been used a lot in my project. His work isn’t always something special, but the simplest things could mean so much. Who knows what the scene looked like the day that Jesus was crucified? This represents what we didn’t see from that day.
There are stories and rumors that Jesus had a child with Mary Magdalene. None of which I believe, but there are people who believe that and think Christ’s descendants still walk among us today. The author may have believed this himself taking that the boy has his hands in prayer mode and has resemblance to Jesus.
Christ knew he was going to be crucified. He knew his fate for years before it happened. In the film the Passion of the Christ, Jesus embraces his cross before he begins to carry it. Since he knew this was how he would die and that it would be a symbol of religion for all of time, this painting shows him holding a cross or two and based on the arm movement, possibly petting it and giving it embrace.
Jesus’ followers called him Rabbi, Lord, and teacher. He taught and spread the word of God to huge crowds of people and even small individuals on the street. Jesus was put on the earth to not only die for everyone’s sins, but to spread the word of the Lord to the people. This piece of art shows Jesus doing what he did for most of his life, teaching, and healing.
This may be one of the most famous religious works of art by one of the most famous artists known to man. The night before Christ dies, he gathers with his disciples to give what is the first mass of the church. The painting shows all of the disciples along with Jesus as he turns the bread and wine into his own body and blood.
