ART 111/220N McDermott

The Tower of Babel by Pieter Bruegel is an oil painting from the Renaissance era depicting a story from the book of Genesis. In studying this piece of art, it was fascinating to see the different levels and areas where the artist had gone into great detail showing people doing a variety of things. It portrays how a united humanity of the generations came together from the East after the Great Flood to build a city and tower that reached into the heavens and be praised by God. It is said the person in the foreground is likely Nimrod who may have ordered the construction of the tower.
