This painting demonstrates how these two people have chosen different paths. The woman to the right heads towards a darker path into the forest. Meanwhile, the man with the horse takes a safer path.
Prisoners of War shows us that the world is chaotic. The prisoners seem that they have no fight in them. They find everything pointless, so they chose to not fight and just let things happen.
Monk by the Sea is perfect at reflecting the ideas of Nihilists because we see nothing. The world is black and bland. We see nothing of interests and therefore there is nothing to believe in.
Nam titles the painting "Sad Beauty is Beautiful:" because she sees the beauty even in negative situations. She is optimistic about life because she ignores negativity and leans towards positivity.
