You can't drive if you can't see

More is not always necessarily better. As humans, we naturally tend to get bored of simplicity. Out of boredom, we seek the next big thing. This is where we often think the next big thing literally has to be "big". The more we evolve, the more we seem to think bigger is better, but that's not necessarily true. It is okay to venture off and explore the bigger things in life, but after reading Walden and Civil Obedience" by Henry David Thoreau I believe that simplicity is actually key to "better". Many abstract things come from some sort of simple foundation. If we did not have simple things to influence our creativity, then there would be no guide. It would be like driving without being able to see. My inspiration for this creative gallery came from a simple foundation, reading. One thing that Thoreau stated that really made me dive into the book was, “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." After, I went to my place to escape reality, I let this book be my guide of stress relief. This gallery has artworks that are very simple; nothing to complex. I believe these artworks are beautiful and tell a story within themselves, but others may not see what I see. “It is not all books that are dull as their readers. There are probably words addressed to our condition exactly, which if we could really hear and understand, would be more salutary than morning or the spring to our lives, and possibly put a new aspect on the face of things for us.” - Thoreau

Sometimes life can get extremely stressful. We've all had a time where we just feel so overwhelmed, that we need a break from reality. The emotion detailed into this artwork captures that moment.
That moment when you finally get a chance to escape reality and engage in whatever activity your heart desires is what this picture makes me feel. The simplicity is what adds the peace to the artwork.
You can see many images in this artwork. This is how complicated our reality is. Everyone has their own outlook on life, but how you view it and decide to embrace it is your choice.
“However, mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks the poorest when you are the richest.” - Thoreau You never know how someone views you. you may think your life is tough, while another is admiring you.
When you sit still and relax you start to find beauty in the simple things such as; nature, people, cultures, etc.
Once you have time to clear your head, you start putting all the pieces together. That beauty that you find in life starts to tie into your reality.
“I left woods for as good of a reason as I went there. Perhaps it seems to me that I had several more lives to live, and could not spare any more time for that one.” - Thoreau Once we calm down, we realize that the reality we so badly needed to escape, is actually what we need. We go beyond to try and improve simplicity when things start to get boring and stressful. Sometimes if we just rely on our simple foundations, we may come to greater conclusions. Instead of escaping reality, we should embrace it and become one.
