My gallery is about Self Love. In this way I am showing self love shown by self portraits of important people in history. Showing there own love for themselves. Using colors, paint strokes, water color, pastels, etc. Going to famous artist of the past to simple merchants in the early 1500's

In this self portrait Vincent Van Gogh shows his master work of paint strokes and use of color to depict his self love and create an image of himself. In this portrait you see his hands holding paint brushes showing what he loves to do. You also see the deep dark colors like blues and greens. In this you can get into Vincent's mind and wonder what he is thinking.

Rubens Peale was a American artist and a museum director from the early and mid 1800's. In this portrait Rubens shows his self love and his love for his plant Geranium. Showing realistic colors as in his hair, suit, plant, and background. The vibrant yet dark color scheme brings his body to life in this painting showing great character and little flaws.

Bartolomé Sureda y Miserol was a Spanish artisan in the 1800's. He served as director of the Real Fabrica de Porcelana del Buen Retiro, the Real Fabrica de Pano in Guadalajara, the Real Fabrica de Loza de la Moncloa, and the Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja. In this self portrait Bartolomé artist uses dark colors as the back ground light greys for his suit to bring him from the background. Using realistic colors to make his face and clean paint strokes throughout the whole painting.
Portrait of Diego de Guevara (?), Michel Sittow, c. 1515/1518, From the collection of: National Gallery of Art, Washington DC
Diego de Guevara was a Spanish courtier in the 1500's and ambassador who served four successive Dukes of Burgundy. He was also a significant art collector. In this showing of self love Diego uses bright colors to bring himself to life using reds for his hair and wearing a bright fur coat around his shoulders. Very realistic paint strokes making Diego yet unnatural hand placements makes me skeptical of the position posed in the painting.

Napoleone di Buonaparte was a French military and political leader in the early 1500's who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and led several successful campaigns during the Revolutionary Wars. In this portrait Napoleone is showing his self love in having this portrait done of him in his full French Revolutionary Outfit. Full of vibrant and dark colors it is not just a simple portrait it is a full body portrait also showing his office. Realistic paint strokes makes a short Napoleone look powerful.

Using water color in the background and reds and whites for his face you see a realistic painting of an important Chief Leader sporting his tribes colors on his face.

Bindo Altoviti, a wealthy Florentine banker in the early 1500's you see depicted in this self portrait. Bindo shown in the version of self love in a stance known for mystery and love as he is staring into your soul looking for a secret. This portrait painted very well with thin lines and dark colors shows the soft chin on the young man and dark robe contracting with the dark background.
Willem Coymans, Frans Hals, 1645, From the collection of: National Gallery of Art, Washington DC
Willem Coymans, who was twenty-two years old in 1645. A famous family he was born into as a cow man and the centuries worker for the town. In this dark portrait showing self love Fran Hals the artist uses dark vivid colors to show the importance of this man using the three cow heads in the background on the wall to show who this man was and what his family did to become famous.
Georg Gisze Kingdom of Poland was a Hanse merchant. As a member of the Hanseatic League Gisze also worked in London when this portrait was painted. In this self love portrait many colors are used to make this portrait look so good using reds, browns, whites, blacks, etc. Using clean paint strokes and realistic colors helps bring this portrait to life in a gorgeous manner.
