Tate rytky's ancient chinese          art and culture

This project is about ancient Chinese art and culture.  In this gallery I will show ancient Chinese  bronze, oracle bones, and silk.

Bronze ia an alloy of copper and tin, 90% copper and 10% tin. Bronze had many uses such as making weapons and tools like, swords, shovels, axes, and body armor. It also was used to make items such as containers, bowls, bells, drums, cups, artifacts, and they would also carve pictures with bronze. They would value bronze because of how much longer it lasted than stone and wood and it would help farmers and more food, minerals, and goods. Sources: "Ancient China." Reflections. Oracle bones are made of animal bones or turtle shells. The oracle bone could be used in ceremonies to tell the future. It could also be written on to tell stories or legends. Oracle bones were valued because people could talk to gods or ancestors. They would visit a diviner and they will carve a question in an oracle bone. Then they will crack the bone and "read" the cracks. Sources: Donn, Lin. "Mr. Donn's Sitefor Kids & Teachers." Games, Activities, Learning Modules, Lesson Plans, Powerpoints and More. N.p., n.d. Silk is a thin, strong fiber that silkworms make when they are making their cocoons. Silk can be used to make paper, fishing lines, money, bowstrings, clothing, canvases for painting, and designs such as birds or flowers. People valued silk because it was valuable and rare. Wearing Silk was an important symbol in ancient China and only high ranking officials could wear silk. Sources: "Ancient China." Reflections. Ancient Civilizations.
