Taoism and Confucianism

This painted jar represents some ideals of Taoism. The subjects in this picture, the bird and bamboo, are both of nature. Taoism has a big emphasis on nature. The direction of this painting flows naturally. This smooth flow is akin to the idea harmony in Taoism.
This piece represents Confucianism. The big picture, or subject, is about the whole nature scene. Notice that there are people in this picture; however, only after close inspection are these people noticable. This encompasses the Confucian ideal that it is important to play your part in the bigger idea or for society. If you be the best whatever you are, whether it be a slave or a king, you will help contribute to the community.
