Darkness to light

I choose paintings that show that there was darkness there but everything will be better. Whether it was people struggling or if it was nature.

This painting shows contrast very well with light and dark. Everyone believes that the are boring someone for the right reason
Sadko, Ilya Repin, 1876, From the collection of: The State Russian Museum
the lighting in this painting is great. With it being underwater, the light and dark looks great. This man is seeing something that no one else could see.
Two Watermills and an Open Sluice, Jacob van Ruisdael, 1653, From the collection of: The J. Paul Getty Museum
This painting shows a man made mill running off of nature. The lighting of the clouds and the build sow great contrast.
The Quack, Gerard Dou, 1652, From the collection of: Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen
It appears to be a rough time in this painting. People debating how their going to eat and survive. I believe this because everything is dark besides the people, like they are finding a way to make everything better.
The Tower of Babel, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, circa 1568, From the collection of: Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen
I like the colors and feel of this painting. From the shad of the clouds to the different colors in the tower.
Return of the Prodigal Son, Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn, 1663 - 1665, From the collection of: The State Hermitage Museum
This painting appears people are preying for this man. The light on the boy and man shows their is someone to help him

This city looks peaceful and also beautiful. The way the sunlight is bouncing of some of the buildings is wonderful.
Oaks at a lake with Water Lilies, Jacob Isaackszoon van Ruisdael, around 1652, From the collection of: Gemäldegalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
This pain shows nature with good contrast.
Cleombrotus Ordered into Banishment by Leonidas II, King of Sparta, Benjamin West, 1768, From the collection of: Tate Britain
It appears that this woman just received bad news with the others trying to help her. The light coming around the people with dark on the edges shows great contrast.
The rainbow, Willem Roelofs, 1875, From the collection of: Kunstmuseum
Its clear that a storm as just pasted, that everything is going to get brighter. The darkness in the back and the light by the rainbow looks great, to show contrast in nature.
