Robert E. Lee

As General of the Army of VA, Lee commanded the Confederate forces ** until their surrender in 1865. This photo is important to me as it shows Lee in the same light as the respectable individual that he remained throughout and after the war. Even at the surrender at Appamattox, Lee could be pictured in this same military dress and was never portrayed as "defeated."
