This piece is German propaganda. It show an ideal German man being honorable and noble by joining the army. His ideal family is proudly sending him off to war. This is one example of the use of art to create support for the Nazi Party and the war. It also shows the use and power art had in advertising. It is art that has more of a purpose than to depict the world and emotions.
Waiting for the Train on the Anhalter Bahnhof, Berlin. December 1945, Kessell, Mary, 1945, From the collection of: Imperial War Museums
The Anhalter Bahnhof was a train station in Berlin that was used to deport 55,000 Jews during the war. The monochromatic color scheme gives the piece the emotion and darkness of what it is depicting. Unlike the art of World War I the art made after World War II shows the emotions and the affects of the war on the people.
Blind man in Belsen, Alan Moore, 1947, From the collection of: Australian War Memorial
This was made two year after World War II. It show how the war still had a major impact on the German world. There are living men and dead men depicted, but the living men look like skeletons. This shows how the ones who lived only survived physically and have been changed by the war
