Due to the extraordinary width between the curvature of the horns, this trophy of a horned head of the Sincerus Caffer was a record in the region of Congo-Ruanda-Urundi. The trophy has been kept since 1940 at the Lwiro Natural Sciences Research Center, CRSN. As it’s described in the legend below the trophy, it was a Belgian settler Mr. Jean Schuermans who killed the animal in the locality of Kibungu in Rwanda. Its conservation at CRSN Lwiro illustrates the international or regional character of the former Institute for Scientific Research in Central Africa (IRSAC), now the CRSN, which has in addition to the General Directorate in Lwiro, also a representation Office in Rwanda and Burundi. The 3 countries constituted together the Congo-Ruanda-Urundi during the colonization under the Kingdom of Belgium.
