Besides making terracotta pots and pans, potters across the State of Orissa produce a range of votive figures, roof tiles, tulasi chauras as well as a variety of toys.
This toy figure of an animal, perhaps a stylised bull, is mounted over a circular bowl-like base. Under the front legs there is a small figure of a calf while the bull is flanked by two male dolls. The entire contraption is placed over two twig axels-front and back. To either ends of each of these, hollow, wheel-turned wheels are attached. To stop the wheels from falling out, a twig each on either side is tied horizontally connecting the outer ends of the axels. The hand-modelled figures are adorned with pellets, and pinching technique. The toy cart is pulled with a string by the child player.
