On 1/24/15 Shaimaa el-Sabbagh, a 31-year-old mother, poet and activist went to lay a wreath of flowers on Tahrir Square in Egypt but she was shot and killed by masked riot police. Photographs of this, her collapsing and dying while her friends try to save her are heart wrenching. Many more have died since. This collage/painting done in that same year is a memorial to Sabbagh’s life. News clippings about the event were used in the collaged material.
