A panel painting that would have been part of the base of the main altarpiece at the charter house of Aula Dei: one of the major projects entrusted to the painter Jerónimo Vallejo Cósida by the Archbishop of Zaragoza, Don Hernando de Aragón.
This Mannerist painting is one of the finest from the altarpiece. It is directly related to the Dormition of the Virgin (Dormición de la Virgen) painting from the altarpiece at the Cistercian abbey in Tulebras (Navarra), which was completed around the same time. The work features an extraordinary technique and style, showing the influence of the Flemish painters Pablo Esquert and Roland de Mois.
