The Zaragoza Museum (Museo de Zaragoza) is the largest and most representative museum in the entire Aragon region. Its collections offer an overview of history since prehistoric times, including Antiquity, the Early Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Gothic and Baroque periods, the Goya era, and the 19th and 20th centuries. To complete this already wide variety, there are also unique ceramic, ethnological, and Oriental art collections.
The Zaragoza Museum's extensive collection started when it was founded in 1836, with items from the Spanish government's seizure of church property in the Mendizábal confiscation (Desamortización de Mendizábal). Since then, ithas been expanded through various legally established channels, such as purchases, donations, deposits, and, notably, successful excavations and archeological surveys.
