“Cruel!” represents a cheerful genre picture made by Angelo Dall'Oca Bianca in the 1880s and has as its subject the theme of love prayer. A man with a moustache with a half-hidden face poses as a supplicant. The requests, unheard of, are addressed to a young woman, wrapped in a black mantilla with a gypsy taste fixed on the head by a clasp, which, intentionally absent, waves a fan of vague Spanish flavors. The work has come to the Galleria d’Arte Moderna from the first substantial donation made by the sculptor Ugo Zannoni to the musei civici of Verona in 1905.
