In the early hours of October 4, 1910, from this cruiser, Lieutenant José Mendes Cabeçadas Júnior ordered the firing of the three shots that
marked the beginning of the Republican Revolution. Hours later, together with the cruiser "São Rafael", it attacked the Palácio das Necessidades. This and other defining events marked the 36 years of service of the Adamastor in Portugal's history.
