  • About Creator: José Alves de Oliveira (Valença, PI, 1916 - Teresina, PI, 2000) was a cabinetmaker in the interior of Piauí, but in order to offer better opportunities to his children, Dezinho moved to the capital, where he got a job as a watchman, becoming an employee of the city hall. The situation changed radically, however, when he received an order for large wooden images to replace the ceramic saints in the renovation of a church whose priest had already noticed the quality of his work in the ex-votos that, without charge, he had always made and continued to make for promise payers.
