A Dutch Delft plate commemorating the reinstatement of Prince Willem V (1748-1806) as the Stadtholder of the United Provinces of The Netherlands in 1788. In 1787, after an assassination attempt by the Patriots, Willem V went into exile in England. He returned to The Netherlands in 1788. The plate is decorated with a praise poem to God, thanking him for the safe return of Willem V. The Poem translates to “What is God’s work wonderfully great, who could have thought that God would in such great need give to us again, who would have thought one year ago, Who will not praise God for giving us back our Orange ruler, Orange is tops again”.
