The El Ninot figurehead, which shows a boy who has obtained the qualification of third pilot at a Nautical School, which enabled him to go to sea as a nautical student. He is carrying his certificate in his left hand and an officers cap in his right. For a long time this figurehead decorated the facade of the Rafael Martí tavern, which stood on Carrer València (Barcelona), and which at that time lay almost on the edge of the city. The tavern became very popular and the new district that was built in this area was given the name of El Ninot. Nowadays the El Ninot food market features a reproduction of the figurehead on its front facade.
