Fear is a charcoal drawing by the South African Artist David Koloane (1938-2019). The work shows a difficult time in South Africa's history where fear is at the order of the day. Koloane was an art activist and had good reason to fear the Safety Police during the time. Short Biography: David Nthubu Koloane was born in Alexandra Johannesburg in 1938. He studied under Bill Ainsley and later graduated with a Diploma in Museum Studies at the University of London. The artist also co-founded the Bag Factory Artists’ Studio with Sam Nhlengethwa in Johannesburg in 1991. The aim of the Bag Factory Artists’ Studio was mainly to provide studio space to black artists, who had little access to artistic resources. The Bag Factory Artists’ Studio is still active today. Koloane died in 2019 at age 81.
