This is one of the three exhibits for the 26th Inten Exhibition. Meanwhile, of the three, “Sound of the ravine” attracted people’s attention to Taikan’s technique used to express the severe mountain and deep canyons with only sumi ink. This peaceful work also pleased people with its scene of a bank in spring that was well expressed by bright colors. This scene is pleasant and enjoyable like a scene from a fairy tale: on the bank where horsetails and dandelions grow, a crab with large forcipes suddenly appears. In the background, nothing is painted, except the line of the bank dividing the sky and the ground. However, this work has enough lyric to make us feel the beautiful spring day.
