Matteo Basilè (1974), considered one of the leading artists of the digital generation of the early 2000s, is among the first in Europe to merge art and technology in a reinterpretation of existing reality through images that belong to the world of the Internet, television channels, and music videos, within a constant union between real and virtual space. Basilè's is a video-photographic investigation; he does not use photography in the classical sense but passes the image from the hard disk to large printers directly on foils through plotter painting. Basilè is an icon artist. His most recent works portray highly theatrical characters with piercing gazes and body postures that refer to a hieratic sacredness.
