Gorilla bust

Many sculptures by Ligabue, due to the delicacy of the material of which they were modeled, have come down to us incomplete. It is also the case of this gorilla which, despite the character of a fragment, does not lose the power of the expression concentrated above all in the emphatic underlining of the jaws which highlight the teeth. The fur, outlined with deep engraved furrows, accentuates the muscular masses and makes the solid figure more disturbing and aggressive.
