The MacLennan family harrowing the machair in Huisinis, Harris with wooden ràcan prior to sowing. Machair is a Gaelic word used to describe a fertile low-lying raised beach found particularly in the Hebrides. Often covered with wild flowers, it is very fertile and used for growing crops.
The photograph was taken by Eric Meadows (1924-2009) a photographer from Luton who made various trips to Scotland.
