Lakes of International Importance

Lake Tofutsu is a nationally designated wildlife sanctuary and a Ramsar Convention-listed wetland (2005) because it is one of the most important stopover sites for migratory birds in Japan. It is also designated as Abashiri National Quasi-National Park because of its representative scenery of Hokkaido.
