Abashiri City is located in the eastern part of Hokkaido on the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk, surrounded by beautiful nature of lakes and forests.
In Hokkaido, which has had its own history since the Jomon period, the period of the Okhotsk culture existed in the coastal area of the Sea of Okhotsk, centering on Abashiri.
From that time, through the birth of Abashiri Prison in the Meiji era (1868-1912), the climate and history of Okhotsk have been passed down to the present day, and can be felt in various places in the city.
