Manjushri on Lion

Irie Hakō1940

Adachi Museum of Art

Adachi Museum of Art
Yasugi, Shimane, Japan

Hako engaged in copying the wall paintings at Horyuji Temple and devoted himself to the study of classics. Using the same paints used to copy the wall paintings, he powerfully recreats the ancient world of Buddhist art with his forceful yet blurred India ink lines and the background gradation of deep red. The deep, sensual beauty that is his signature can be felt in the work.
