Pachydiscus perfidus ammonite

Ammonites are a subclass of extinct cephalopods, which lived in warm Cretaceous seas 65 million years ago. During that period, the Kazimierz area was under water. The water temperature ranged from 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. Ammonites were carnivores which ate invertebrates. At the end of the Cretaceous period, they died out irreversibly, just like the belemnites. This specimen comes from a quarry in Piotrawin. It was discovered in 1985.
