Mr and Mrs Kuncewicz would bring souvenirs from every trip abroad. The shawl in the photograph comes from their period of exile in England. It served as a decoration — a bedspread or wall ornament. Similar shawls were also used to make turbans. The value of the shawl was noticed, among others, by the painter Antoni Michalak, who suggested that the thin cashmere be underlined with wool in order to preserve the original fabric.
