Pieter Goos (1615 - 1675) was a cartographer and publisher based in Amsterdam, he was the son of Abraham Goos and the father of Hendrik Goos, also cartographers. In 1650 he purchased the copper plates of the Mariner's Guide by Anthonie Jacobsz. The poster features decorations with three cherubs; one holds a crossbow and has an astrolabe at his feet, while there is an armillary sphere between the other two, and one of them holds a compass.
