Alfredo Savini (1868–1924), an Italian painter who had his training in Bologna, relocated to Verona in 1900 after being named director of the Cignaroli Academy. There, he championed the value of learning to paint "en plein air." His artistic output up until 1915 is distinguished by a number of actual landscape paintings that are dedicated to the areas around Verona and Lake Garda. The picture "Peace. Tomb among the Cypresses", which depicts a lake landscape with a strong evocative charm, dates to that time period. In it, the artist expresses his commitment to pictorial symbolism, made possible by the naturalism that has always been a hallmark of his creative trademark.
