Giuseppe Zancolli (1888-1965) attended the Cignaroli Academy from 1904 to 1906, participating in Alfredo Savini's painting courses. In those same years, Guido Trentini, Antonio Nardi, and Ettore Beraldini were also enrolled at the Academy. He began his artistic activity as an illustrator, collaborating with Beraldini on a satirical student quarterly entitled "Satanasso”, published from 1906 to 1908, and later continued to do caricature illustrations for magazines such as "Can de la Scala" and "Il Garda". As early as 1912, the artistic themes that Zancolli would develop in the following years are present, following a linguistic direction isolated from the other artists of the Veronese group. In the 1928 "Portrait of a Girl in Red", a young woman is depicted posing in front of a tree. In the painting, the very bright red color that characterizes the girl's coat is prominent.
