This portrait depicts Gaetano Cignaroli, a professor of drawing and sculpture for more than fifty years at the city's Veronese Academy, founded by his uncle Giambettino. The canvas, painted by Carlo Zusi (1792-1868), a colleague of Cignaroli's, is a posthumous tribute to the successful sculptor. The face is inspirational, and the sculptor's working tools in his right hand are rendered with great precision. The portrait is set in a spirit and light that are still late Enlightenment.
