This portrait was completed by Francisco Pradilla using a photograph, as the subject had died in 1900. Mariano Royo Urieta represents Zaragoza's bourgeoisie. Almost his whole body is shown in a dignified demeanor, added to by his richly decorated and adorned civil engineer's uniform.
The coloring is brilliant thanks to the combination of colors, tonal intensities, and use of chiaroscuro. The loose brushwork and impasto give this work all the features of an official portrait.
