Rural school children together with the leading team in a remote area in the Kadjuchu Locality , Irangira village (South-Kivu) are empowered with notebooks and a COVID 19 kit to ensure they can deal with pandemics in the school. This school youth COVID19 Team (YCT) is promoted by the Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu in the South-Kivu, Democratic Republic of The Congo. This school is located in the remote village Irangira in Kadjuchu district which is permanently threatened by several pandemics such Cholera, Typhus, Dysentery, Malaria, and recently the COVID19.
Beside its main mission for plant conservation at the main place at the Botanic Garden, the Environmental Advocacy team of the Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu also contributes to the awareness on other community issues focussing on water and sanitation, youth and women, food and nutrition security, peace dialog, inclusive school etc. Starting with rural schools for the community awareness on these issues is for the Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu the best approach to a sustainable biodiversity/tree conservation in rural post conflict zones in the Eastern of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
