Mohair is a natural fibre with unique lustre and a fine texture that comes from the hair of the Angora goat. South Africa produces around 60% of the world’s mohair by companies such as SAMIL SA, based in Port Elizabeth along the east coast of South Africa. SAMIL was our textile manufacturer partner in Social Fabric's mohair iteration, and hosted artist Liza Grobler as artist-in-residence.
