Projeto Portinari
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Composition in red, blue, earthy, green, gray and white tones. Shading defining volume and some contour lines. Group of seven children playing soccer in slightly hilly terrain, and we see a fence and plantations in the background. The foreground suggests small hills, a severed tree trunk and a rectangular poster, horizontally stuck on the end of a pole stuck to the floor. In the background on the left, two boys with their backs to the center, plus two boys also looking back with legs apart and arms up. The one who is more to the right wears a hat; on the right, a spotted goat stands in profile to the left. On the third level, at the center, three boys face front, one behind the other, slightly on the right and diagonally to the left, from front to back; the one in front has the ball below his right foot, and they all have legs apart and arms away from the body. In the background on the left, suggestion of a fence on the left diagonal to the right, front to back, separating the land where the children are from the cultivated land. This creates an angle em continues horizontally cutting almost the entire width of the composition. In the middle of the plantation, one sees a small house and a few scattered trees. On the ground where the boys are playing they we see, on the right, two boys as if heading for the group that is playing football.
