Yasugi, Shimane, Japan

Among the Ten Scenes of the Sea, this is one of the Four Seasons of the Sea. Taikan skillfully expressed a scene of dynamically rolling waves crashing onto rough rocks under the shadowy moonlight. Taikan took into account the changing of the seasons when depicting nature. In this work, he enhanced a sense of the season by adding a cormorant. In contrast to the powerful waves, the bird stretches his wings in a relaxed manner, giving a sense of space.
