The building of the Institute for Scientific Research in Central Africa, IRSAC Lwiro. It is the current Centre for Research in Natural Sciences (CRSN) Lwiro which was a jewel for the conservation of biodiversity and the research in Central Africa. It was located in forest environment, conducive to Science, Research, Conservation and Ecotourism. As shown on this plaine view taken in 2020, there was not many human aglomeration around the Center which was still surrounded by forest. After the independence in 1960, the exit of Belgian colonizers, multiple war conflicts , the foreign occupation of the region Kivu, and the total lack of environmental governance, the CRSN which replaced the IRSAC, is currently located in a highly degraded area where the primary forest has been replaced by human dwellings. The Centre is now characterized by a high degradation of the natural habitats. Despite the struggle of the CRSN Lwiro for recovery, it is crutial to confront its local leaders and the international community with this beautiful original image taken from the Tshibati locality so that they may further mobilize ressources to save the forest remains of this great monument wich was once of international renown. Note on the right wing of the complex the imposing Department of Geophysics which gave birth to the Department of Volcanology, now relocated to Goma in North Kivu. At its left wing, the centre houses not only the Documentation Center and a large renowned colonial Library, but also the Biodiversity Department, now closed due to lack of resources to maintain it.
