The logo is representing a hand holding a young leaf of the Myrianthus holstii Engl., family: Urticacea. The tree is named Bwamba in Mashi & Kirega languages. The picture was made from the young leaf grown from Myrianthus seeds collected in the National Parc Kahuzi-Biega (PNKB) in 2017 by the Botanist Team of the JEBK. The Myrianthus holstii is well known not only by its edible fruits, but also the tree is used as medicinal plant by indigenous women living in and arround the PNKB. The Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu is a human-right centred organization located in the South-Kivu in the eastern of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu (JEBK) was créated in 2017 with the mission to contribute to the conservation of threatened plant species and the valorization of indigenous plant knowledge. The Jardin Ethnobotanique Kivu is the pioneer Botanic Garden in the Kivu with specific focus on the inclusion and participation of indigenous people Pygmies in local communities. Using the Myrianthus holstii as symbol for the Botanic Garden, we like to focus on the significance of plant diversity conservation for food security for human and primates in and outside the Kahuzi-Biega National Parc, aWorld Heritage of the UNESCO, and last home for endemic Mountain Gorilla and indigenous Pygmies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
