The Three Ages

In the 1920 painting "The Three Ages", one can sense the stylization of the figures and landscape that the artist achieves with thoughtful rigor, adopting formal solutions such as the use of skillful geometries and compact forms. The color palette favors variations of gray, and critics have seen in this element a definite dialogue with the contemporary works of Angelo Zamboni of Verona. Trentini's paintings of this period seem rough-hewn like wood sculptures, and any chromatic value that might interrupt the range of grays is suppressed. The artist clearly denies the vivacity and daring color of his previous production, moving toward new 20th-century experiences.
