The Three Ages (Las Tres Edades)

Three of the characters have their hair in a bow known as a quiquiriquí: the finishing touch for female farm worker dress in Alcañiz near Castelserás. The title reflects a typical subject in symbolist painting: depicting the three stages of life (childhood, youth, and maturity), but this painting is a costumbrista version that has lost all symbolic meaning by introducing four figures and having the realist costumbrista feel dominate.
